Jay Johansen"With considerable practice, we can learn to paint what we see. With inspiration we can paint what we think and feel. After painting floral, landscapes and still lifes I approached a homeless person in San Francisco and was deeply affected. Seeing this man, his image ignited thoughts and feelings about my work that had previously eluded me. I was moved. Genuinely inspired. It was at that moment I knew I would paint people. For me, the essence of one's life condition, the physical and spiritual, reveals itself in the face."-- Jay Johansen

Frank HowellBorn in Sioux City, Iowa in 1937, Frank Howell felt a strong connection to the Lakota Sioux tribes of his region. Whether he was painting a Native American profile or a landscape, his lyrical interpretations employed a visual representation of the wind as it sweeps across time past, present and future. Howell viewed these images as universal symbols, a kind of visual mythology. Before his death in 1997 of brain cancer, Howell worked in other media including monotypes, watercolors, oils, drawing, and sculpture. As a poet and writer, Howell has also published many books including Gifts of the Crow, Past Winds, and Stories of the Dreamwalkers.

Bob Pejman's style is influenced by such artists as Sir Alma-Tadema, Thomas Cole and Van Huysum. All of them sharing the atributes of technical mastery, form and perspective. While the influence of these masters is evident in Pejman's works, it is through his unique arrangement and depiction of the subject matters that he achieves a distinctive style. One can almost classify his style as romantic realism, which he interestingly enough achieves by protraying beauty and solitude. Bob Pejman has very generously donated five beautiful works for our auction! |
Jane Wooster ScottWooster Scott's paintings echo the hearts and minds of all cultures as she depicts in a very human way America's celebrations of life, traditions and values. She catches moments in time and small towns, great cities, at festivals, sports, politics and in family relationships -- the panoply of a young country at the turn of the last century. She commits these images beautifully and unforgettably to canvas. Her soaring imagination, twice told tales, exhaustive research and trips to antique locales, enable her to make the American Dream spring to life through daring brush and vivid palette. Scott Arts Graphics has donated a framed serigraph titled Carnival (30"x24").value: $2,750.00 |
Margaret Keane"The eyes have always been the most important feature of the face, reflecting the inner qualities and spiritual qualities. I paint my deepest emotions and I've portrayed them in the face of a child. Those eyes were so big and questioning. Like, why is there so much sorrow in the world?".For almost forty years, Margaret Keane has purveyed the most universally popular and most critically reviled images in pop culture; a child with preternaturally large sad eyes. Since becoming a Jehovah Witness in the early 1970's, the eyes now shine from the happy faces of children in paradise settings. "I still paint big eyes, but now they're not as sad."
A 1972 work, Bedtime (13"x13"), is being donated by Jacki and Ira Naznitsky. Margaret Keane partially overpainted this lithograph in 1997. value: $1,000.00 |
Dr. SeussA re-creation of an original drawing by Theodor Seuss Giesel, The Cat in the Hat, has been donated by The Chase Group. Artisans, some of who have worked with the most notable talent in the art world, employ a process called hand pulled lithography to faithfully bring Dr. Seuss' works to life. The printmakers use restored, French-made Marinoni Voirin lithograph presses dating back to the 1840s similar to those used by Cheret, Lautrec and Mucha. Painstakingly recreated by hand, this lithograph was pulled one color at a time and is printed on archival Rives paper imported from France. |

Woven Collages by J. Boles Peña
"Words like threads are woven into thoughts Paper pieces give form to an image as ideas to an impression Color is the theme Stamps send the message Thus my woven collages" The colors and textures I grew up with in New Mexico combine in my work with the shapes and sensibilities of native cultures, creating a unique blend of art and design, culture and craft. I work on every aspect of each one-of-a-kind, one-at-a-time piece from start to finish.
